FRIDAY. Mrs. Art Hall of Parr is quite seriously sick. Miss Nellie Imes returned today from a short visit with relatives at Monticello. x Ord Hanley is spending a few days’ visiting with his parents at Kniman. Charles Nowels of Elkhart is visiting until Monday with relahere.
Mr- and Mrs. F. L. Hunt are spending a few days with her mother at Medaryville. Mrs Mary Tally, north of town went to Elwood, today, for a week’s visit with her daughter. Mrs. J. N. Gunyan went to Monon today, for a short .visit with relatives.
Thomas Grant of Rose Lawn, came this morning to attend the funeral of Mrs. Shelby Grant. Mrs. Larkin Potts is seriously sick at her home in the western part of town. Mrs. Wm. McElfresh and grand daughter are spending a few days with relatives at Monon. Jonas Van Duzen and Lily Lintner were married by Squire Geo. Antrim, of DeMotte, Nov. 24th. The town was full of oil men, today, to try the Hersh man oil lease case, but a change of venue has been taken. Mr, and Mrs. W. S. Russel of Remington are the guests of Dr. and Mrs. S. C. Johnson for a few days. Frank Parcelh returned to Monticello last evening, after a few days’ visit with his cousin Fred. Miss Clara Smith returned home to Reynolds, today’, after a few days’ visit at St. Joseph’s College. Miss Frances Mills, Ottawa, 111., and her sister Miss Ethel, of Chicago, are the guests of Mr- and Mrs. J. H. S. Ellis. Mrs. Rebecca Porter returned home today from several days’ visit with her brother, George Brown at Knox. Burt White, after a short, visit With his brother, Walter White, returned home to Joliet, 111. today.
Mrs, Katherine Lappie and Miss Kate Hildebrand returned home to Delphi today, after a short visit at, St. Joseph’s College. Mrs. G. B. "Ward/of Monticello who has been the guest of Mrs Hettie Reynolds and Mrs. George Pumphrey, returned home today. Miss Maude Barnes returned home to Frankfort today, after a several days* visit with Mrs. D. G. WkrherSJoseph Hammond and children, of Wheatfiejd who spent Thanksgiving with his father Steward Hammond returned home this morning. Dr. and Mrs. C. Scott returned home to Monticello today, after a few weeks’ visit with her sister, Mrs. Wm. Mrs. S M. Nunnally of Delphi who has been the guest of her daughter Mrs. John H. Daugherty, southeast of town, returned home today.
Darwin Hatch, of Kentland, son of Ex-Congressman Hatch, has been appointed to a cadetship at West Point by Congressman Crumpacker.
Dr. Frank Hemphill, of Chili Ind., who spent Thanksgiving with his mother west of town, went home today. He thinks he will soon go to the Philippines in the capacity of hospital surgeon.
Prof. J. Donaldson, of Terre Haute, after a short visit with Mr and Mrs. J. B. Martindale,. west of town, returned home today, Mrs. Martindale, his , daughter returning* with him for a few weeks’ visit.
Miss Juno Kannal entertained sixteen of her friends at a six o’clock dinner party Thursday evening, in honor of Miss Edna Sigler, of Wheeler, Ind., Delos Coen and Rice Porter, the two last named being home on a short visit from Northwestern Military Academy.
Marshal Brown of Wheatfield brought down and lodged in the county jail, today a man named Hogan. He was working on a pipe line and was discharged, and forthwith got drunk and disorderly on the streets, and was fined and costed $6.20. This he would not or could not pay, and is brought to jail to serve out the sentence.
The dance Thursday night, in Warner’s hall, under the management of Conrad Kellner, was a great success. Some 65 couples participated, including many from out of town. Thus there were 12 couples present from Remington, 9 from Monticello and 6 from Monon, The music was of the best, being furnished by Mochel and Healys’ orchestra, and the man. agement was also very-excellent. Our celebrated and unconquered football team had their picture taken in a group, this morning. The picture together with the team’s record for this year will be sent to the city papers. The team has not only defeated everything they have been up against this year, but what it more remarkable, not a single score has been made against them, by any opposing team. They are fully and fairly entitled to be called the champion town or city team of Indiana, for the season of 1900, Of course the college teams are in another class.
Mr. and Mrs. John Greenfield are preparing to go to Colorado for a stay of several years at least’ and perhaps permanently. They will start in a very short time, early next week, in fact. Mrs. Greenfield’s health has been poor for quite a long time past, and the removal is made in the hopes that a change of climate will be beneficial. They will go to Colorado City, which ia directly adjoining and practically a part of Colorado Springs. Mrs. Greenfield’s brother, John R. Watt, lives there apd has a house engaged for them. Mr. Greenfield has rented his house here to Wm. Daniels, of Barkley tp., but who will not move in until next March.
Goodland’s Conuty Seat Election Hung Up.
The question of an election to remove the county seat of Newton county to Goodland is now in the courtsand will,: it is stated, be fought to a finish. Being carried at once to the Supreme Court, which ever way the circuit court decides. The Kentland Enterprise states that an “agreed case” will be made up and submitted to the Supreme Court, and the final decisiowbe thus greatly expedited. What ought to be done, however, is for the coming state legislature to repeal the present Newton couu ty seat law, And pass a fair and justoneinijsstAad; and one adapted to the state of things as they there exist. ■ f *’ * ■ /• l
