THE RAILROADS.
The new $40,000 Illinois Central station at Decatur, 111., has been opened. Railroad men are of the opinion that the Northwestern is seeking an entrance into Kansas City. Wabash earnings for the first week in November amounted to $320,455, an increase of $7,278. It is said that steamship agents in the West have combined to break the antiticket commission agreement of the railroads. It is reported that the Northwestern road is planning to add a (bird track to its main line between Chicago and Clinton, lowa. Admission to the interchangeable mileage ticket bureau of the Western Passenger Association has been refused -the Omaha, Kansas City and Eastern road. The final options for the double track of the Northwestern between Chicago and Green Bay have been secured and the work will begin early iu the spring. The management of the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad has contracted with the Baldwin locomotive works for thirty more new freight engines. Among the recent fast runs is one reported by the Lake Shore. The ChicagoNew York twenty-four hour train of this line covered the distance between Erie and Buffalo, eighty-eight miles, in seven ty-five miiiutes. Statistics prove that railroad men are becoming more temperate. Twenty years ago 20 per cent of the men discharged on the New York Central system were dismissed for drunkennesa. Now in an army of 80,000 employes of that line less than 1 per cent are discharged for this cause. Officers of other roads report a similar conditUn.
