Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 22, Number 21, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 30 November 1900 — The City Council. [ARTICLE]
The City Council.
Fire Chief Eldon Hopkins reported the resignation of John W. Burns from the company. This leaves on some 11 members. The chief recommended that by means be adopted to keep up the membership of the company. H. B. Kurrie, the city attorney, was appointed delegate to represent Rensselaer at the meeting of the State Municipal League, at Indianapolis, Dec. 6th. A resolution was adopted authorizing the purchase of a new electric light dynamo of 2,000 lights capacity. A recent narrow escape of a
city councilman from being hit with a bullet from a target rifle while winding bis way homeward, and another case where a man got a bullet in his head while eating his supper, both incidents occured in the “wild and woolly west” side caused some discussion as to the means necessary to be adopted to stop shooting inside the city limits. The city attorney was directed to investigate the state laws and city ordinances bearing on that matter.
