Hammond Tribune: The local Bryanite organ was compelled by Hon. Thos. J. McCoy of Rensselaer to confess that it lied when it said that Mr. McCoy could buy up votes and priests. aim eats humble pie in great shape and retracts the story in last night’s News, only after he was visited by Mr. McCoy’s lawyer on a threat of criminal proceedings. It will be remembered that the vicious story started by Swaim in Hammond was the climax of a campaign of covert insinuations and vesled mud slinging attacks on different republicans. The Tribune knocked the props out of falsehood by publishing Mr. McCoy’s telegraphic denial and circulating 1000 extra copies among the people of Hammond. Now Silas Swaim crawfishes. Hurrah for McCoy.
