Prosecuted For Criminal Libel.
On Saturday before election the Hammond Daily News, one of the most unfair and abusive papers in the state, published the following outrageous paragraph regarding Thomas J. McCoy, of Rensselaer, Republican district chairmanTom McCoy, of Rensselaer, was here today to bring a big corruption fund for Lake county. Mr. .McCoy is district chairman and at Rensselaer the other day he made the boast that “I can buy up the g-d d—n s—n b —s of Democrats that’s necessary. I have bought up the priests before and I can do it again. Together with considerable more blackguardism along the same line. < Mr. McCoy has instituted proceedings in'the Lake circuit court against S. E. Swaim, editor of the News, for criminal libel. It is a clear case and unless Swaim at once fully retracts and amply apologizes he will get it good and hard,
