The Result in Jasper County.
The official tabulated vote of Jasper county is republished in this issue, corrected in accordance with the official tally sheets. The changes are not many nor very important,,from the table is published Thursday. McKinley’s plurality over Bryan is 503, which is 28 larger than the highest Republican majority two years ago. It is also higher than the majority over the combined democratic and populist vote for Bryan in 1896. Besides the presidential vote appearing in the table, there were 2 votes for the People’s Party, 2 for the Social Democratic, and 1 for "the Socialist Labor tickets. The vote given for President, in each case, is the vote for the first elector at the head of the ticket But the first elector on the Democratic ticket received 28 more votes than all the other electors on that ticket. In this same way the head elector on the Republican ticket had 26 more votes than the others, and on the Prohibition 5 more; one socialist also played the same trick. This means that 60 voters in the county practically lost their entire votes on the national and state ticket from not having read and remembered the plain directions in the papers how to vote a straight ticket. They marked the first name, instead of marking the big square. But even more than that lost their votes on the county ticket. This is shown by the fact that the combined vote on Congressman, the head of the ticket, was 3,705; while the highest combined vote for any other office on the ticket was 3612. Showing that 93 voters lost all their county vote except for congressman. The vote on County Councilmen is not given in the table, it being too complicated for one thing, and making the table too large and cumbersome, for another. The following are the totals for each candidate for Councilman.
