That Rally at Remington.
The democratic “rally” so called at Remiugtou, Tuesday night, was the biggest failure of the campaign. A torch light procession before the meeting consisted of just 40 torches. The meeting was held in the opera house, and had a large crowd at the start, but the speaker was so very dull and tiresome that nearly everybody left before it was over. The speaker was Stephen A. Douglas of Chicago. He resembles bis great father in nothing except his name. He was former ly a Republican and got sore and left, two years ago. mainly, it is said, because the managers would not send him out as a big speaker; which they did not do, because he was so very inefficient.
