UNITED STATES WILL OPPOSE.
Not to Permit Germany to Have a Veneznslan Coaling Station. Any attempt on the part of Germany to establish a coaling station in Venezuela or in any other country of the western hemisphere will be opposed by the United States. Such action would be in violation of the principles pi the Monroe doctrine, which, it is said, the administration is determined to uphold. Germany is anxious to acquire sites for coaling "Stations in the western hemisphere. At the time this government commenced negotiations for the acquisition of the Danish West Fndies it was well understood in Wash* ington official cirrles that Germany was anxious to obtain control of them, and it was only the determined attitude of the United States that forced her to relinquish the designs she possessed on these islands. The new French duel code provides that in the future no duel can end without the shedding of blood, and no account of the proceedings shall be published if the insult causing the duel was not made public. ' In consequence -of the increasing cost of Holland oysters, American oysters are coming mure and more into vogue in Germany. ..... The annual meeting of the Society of l the Army of the Tennessee at Detroit 'has been postponed to Nov. 14.
