POLITICAL QUESTIONS
Some Answers to the Propositions by Bryanites. If a Bi'j'anite talks to you about alleged dangers of an empire, ask Inin to point out one citizen who is in favor of an empire. There can be no empire unless it is favored by somebody. If a Bryanite says the Philippines should not be retained as a part of this country over the protest of the Filipinos, tell him that it is only one of the 84 tribes, the Tagals, that is in insurrection and there are no objections on the part of the remaining 83 tribes. If a Bryanite about trusts, ask him if he knows that every Democrat in congress from Indiana voted against the anti-trust amendment to the constitution, and that every Republican voted for it. Ask him if he knows that all federal anti-trust laws have been passed by Republicans. If Bryanites say trusts should be them how such a remedy would reach articles not protected by a tariff, such as the Standard Oil trust, Tammany ice trust, Jones’ cotton bale trust, etc. If a Bryanite wants to discuss poli- | tics, ask him what his party pro- ' poses to do to keep the mills open. I Tell him that the Republican party j proposes sound money and broader markets. If you are a farmer or a laborer ask j yourself what the Democratic party i proposes to do that will give you a ! better market for your produce or j your labor. The Republican party guarantees sound money and the extension of our foreign markets. The farmer and the laborer should vote for his own interest. I The National Rural. The Bryan parties ha ye many ways ■ of attempting to deceive the people ' |his year. One of the plans set on j fobt-to deceive the farmer is to send i him an jjlleged agricultural newspaper J called the National Rural. .This paper * is edited and sent out by the national ; Democratic committee. The general , appearance of the paper is that of a faj'ipor’B newspaper. of ' r politics is to be takfll tip gradually, I and.before November it will beoope a rabll. jSryaji grgan. Many Republicans wfio Fave b?eh receiving the paper ; have notified the publishers that they , do not want the paper, and invariably , the answer comes that “a friend has paid for the subscription for six months.” This, of course, is a falsehood, since no friend has sent the paper. It is a,Democratic sheet pure and simple and seeks .entrance into homes under false pretense. Many Republicans have refused to take the paper from the postoffiee on account of the fraud sought to be perpetrated. Fusion Dishonest. If the Democratic, Populist, Free Silver Republicans and anti-imperialists, the parties supporting Bryan, all believe alike, then the keeping up of separate organizations iu order to fool the people is dishonest. If, on the other hand, they do not believe alike, then fusion must necessarily be dishonest.
