Welty Got Welted.
Delphi Journal: __ ■ One of the most interesting events of the Flora fair was the trouncing that Dennis Kenton, the hostler, of Delphi, gave to Oscar Welty, of Kokomo, the distinguished detective. Just what Welty’s business at the fair was nobody seems to know. Some say he was there in the professsional capacity to secure what evidence he could against the beer stands, and others that he was himself an applicant for the gambling privileges of the fair. In any event Oscar got to betting on the horse races and a dispute arose. The point in dispute was referred to Dennis and when Dendis laid down the rule, Welty called him a liar. It wasn’t very, long after until Dennis bit Welty, knocked him down and gave him a vigorous thumping. He was rescued by the police.
