Those. Who Know.
There are still those in the country, who, like their leader Bryan, take many words to insist upon, their contention that the prosperity under McKinley and Protection is only “seeming” and not actual prosperity.Jßy far the larger proportion of those who make this claim consist of those who have no other work or business in the world than to promulgate false and vicious theories. The w orkers of the world are not of their number. They know better. The laboring men of the country have come into close touch With prosperity, and they can’t be deceived by any tales of its non-existence; and the* words of labor' leaders give small , comfort to the calamity howlers., Samuel Gompers, president of the American Federation of Labor, has this to say on the subject:
The revival of industry which we have witnessed within the past year (1899) is one for general congratulation. It is beyond question that the wages the organized workers have been increased, and in many instances the hours of labor either reduced or at least maintained, —— Such words as these from those who know about labor and wages and who are in close touch with ► A.. laboring men don’t help out the cause of the calamity howler, but they tell the truth.
