As a Tax Paying Property.

As The%epublican has already asserted, and re-asserted and asserted again, the G fford railroad will add enough to the taxable property of the several townships, to be worth all it costs them to secure it, let alone its far greater value in other ways. Thus the Monon road is now paying to Marion township taxes to the amount of $2,698.70 annually. That sum would represent 8£ per cent, interest on $Bl, 000 the amount asked to be appro« priated for the Gifford road. In Carpenter, township the Panhandle road now pays taxes anually to the amount of $2,698.70 That would be 10 per cent, annually on what the Gifford road is a king from that township. But if the Gifford road only paid half as much taxes in each township as these other roads do, it would still be a good rate of interest on the honuses required, as interest rates now go.
