Indiana’s One Hundredth Birthday
Monday was Indiana’s 100th birthday, according to the auditor of the slate’s records. May 7, 1800, Indiana territory was set off from the Northwest territory, although the executive journal of William Henry Harrison said the territorial government began July 4, 1800. The act of Congress authorizing a state government was approved April 19, 1816, and on June 29 the constitution was adopted at Corydon. The state was formally admitted to the union Dec. 11, 1816.
