State Geologist Blatc.li ley Pays the Field a Visit. Saturday’s Indianapolis Journal: State Geologist Blatchley returned here yesterday afternoon from Jasper county, where he has been investigating the new oil fields. He reports good prospects for a fine grade of oil and thinks the field will spread over a great deal of territory. The oil is found very near the surface, and as a consequence the wells are very cheaply operated. The oil is sa thick that it is-used as a lubricant and sells at $5.75 per barrel. At the present there are about thirty wells, all of which are .producing from three or twelve barrels of oil a da/.
