Methodist Ministers’ Moving.
A called meeting of the pastors and one layman from each charge in the Valparaiso district of theN. W. Indiana Conference, M. E. church was held at Monon Monday afternoon and night. There was a good attendance of the ministers, but only a few laymen were present. The meeting was in the interest of the Twentieth century movement. This represents a call upon the church to rear a memorial for the close of this century and the opening of the ne\v century by raising S2O, 000,000 as a special thiink offering to God for Bis great mercies and blessings of the past century; and to engage in a special campaign for the conversion .of 20,000,000 souls. One half of this thank offering is to be devoted to Christian education. The other half to such objects as the' several Conferences may direct. The period of time for this gigantic undertaking is limited to this and the first “two years of the coming century. From now ti'l Jan. 1, LOO3. It was reported that one-fourth of the thank offering has already been subscribed.
This meeting was to organize tho.work in this District for a vigorous campaign in this interest. The meeting was very inspiring. The afternoon was taken up with a general discussion of ways and means. A committee was appointed to draft and report a plan of organization. At the evening session Judge Ibaugh of Hammond presided, and on taking the Chair he gave a ringing nddfess on the necessity df Christian Education by schools founded aud maintained by the church. He was followed by the address of the evening, delivered by Dr. W. H. Hickman, Chancellor of DePauw University. This was an able and stirring address, showing remarkable and encouraging gain in lifting this great institution, which has been the pride of our state out of its recent embarrassment. 'On the report of the committees, the following report and plan well adopted. We shall plan, labor and pray for the following results, before Jan. Ist, 1903. 1 1. A revival in every pastoral charge, 2. The payment in full of every church debt. 3. The full apportionment for all benevolences. 4. A gift of $15,000 for the Preachers Aid Society of the Northwest Indiana Conference. 5. The gift of $25,000 (sufficient to entitled ns to name a Chair.) for the endownent fund of DePauw University. ORGANIZATION. A committee was appointed for each charge are to unite and hold public meetings in each church. The following committees are for charges in this county. Barkley—Rev. IJ. S. Kester, N.
