What Mr. Tenny Wants
For Bringing the KendalviUe Rochester & Western Through Rensselaer. A Good Round Sum ‘but the Road is Worth the Money. Capt. M. F. Chilcote has received a letter from G. H. Tenney, or- j ganizer and promoter of the Kendailville, Rochester and West- i ern R. R., in which tire amount of aid to be asked here, is definitely set forth, as per his letter, published below. While the amount; asked is pretty large, the road will be worth a large sum. Further, the conditions are most ' favorable. That is that nothing is to be paid until the road is built, 'clear through. Further-more, it is worth while to notice the fair and gracious manner in which Mr. Tenney expresses the desire of his company to consult and pay j heed to the wishes of the people , as to. the location of the route, j situation of the depot, etc. A man who comes to us in that spirit well j deserves to be met by us in aj similar spirit. Mr. Tenney’s letter is as follows:, Kendailville, Ind., 4-12, 1900. j Mr. M. F. Chilcote. Dear Sir:— Mr. R. A. Hamilton has written to tne saying you would be the proper person to communicate with, in relation to the R. R. & W. Railroad. I will herein say a 6 follows: If the„ town or the people of the town of Rensselaer will donate thirty-five thousand dollars ($35,000) and the right of way through the town and on to Brook or Morocco, one of these towns will secure the line if proper aid is forth coming. We ask for no money until the road is built from here to Gilman, 111., all we want is to be sure of getting it then without delay or litigation. We shall expect Brook or Morocco to do in proportion. It is our desire to conform to the wishes of the people so far as w r e can in relation to the location of the line through towns and farms. You are at liberty to use this as you choose so it is in the interest of the East A West road, ie the K. R. & W. Yours faithfully,
G. H. TENNEY.
