Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 21, Number 60, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 13 April 1900 — The Porto Rica Bill a Law. [ARTICLE]
The Porto Rica Bill a Law.
The Porto Rico bill, as amended by the Senate, passed the House yesterday by a vote of 161 to 153. It bad the strong endorsement of the president and the cabinet, and reoeived practically the solid Republican vote in the House; and the President will sign it, today. Seven chronic kickers voted against it. The bill is a good statesmanlike and patriotic measure. It will give immediate relief and lasting benefit to Porto Rico, and work no hardship nor injustice to anyone. Time will soon indicate the wisdom of the bill and the unwisdom of those alleged Republicans who voted against it, just as it already has in those other two cases in â– which Mr. Crum packer voting against his practically united parly, namely the annexation of Hawaii and the exclusion of the polygamist.
