Remington Wants the Road.
A Rousing Railroad Meeting 'Jhere Monday Night. The committee previously appointed to confer with Carpenter Tp., regarding the movement to secure the Gifford railroad, went over to Remington, Monday evening, and met the citizens of Carpenter and Remington, and also many from Jordan. A public meeting was held in Remington and the the opera house was crowded. The sentiment in favor as securing the road was universal. A. J. Bellows ■» presided at the meeting and Editor Griffin, of the Remington Press, was secretary. Speeches in favor of the road were made by Robert Parker, A. J. Bellows, Levi Hawkins and others. And on behalf of Jordan Tp., by Geo. Besse, Henry Welch, P. D. Gallagher and M. G. Lewis. At a vote to test the sentiment of the meeting there was only one dissenting vote. The general sentiment was that Carpenter, including Remington would vote a tax for the road, of as large per cent, as Marion and and Rensselaer. A tax of 1J per cent, would produce, in round numbers, $17,000 in Carpenter and $25,000 in Marion. The Jordan representatives thought the same tax would carry there, also, and would produce $5,000.
