Another Letter From B. J. Gifford.
W. B. Austin has received another letter from B. J. Gifford in regard to the railroad. He says that “of course” he expected to build on to Remington if the bonus is granted and the free right of way secured. He discusses at considerable length the question of route and says, that no other line to Rensselaer can be considered, except from the Els worth farm in Hanging Grove, thence along the old Continental grade, to where it strikes and crosses- the Monon, three miles east of town, and from there in as nearly a direct line as possible, and hugging the south side of the river pretty close, to the point south of town, and south of the river, where the Rensselaer depot would be located. From there, with perhaps a little drift westward, turning south and taking a bee line to Remington. To follow down the half section line a half mileTaast of the range line gravel road, is Mr. Gifford’s idea of the feasible route to Remington.
