Death of James W. Porter
James W. Porter died Sunday, April Ist, 1900, at one o’clock p. m. at his residence on Vine street, Rensselaer, Ind. The cause of. his death was pneumonia, and his sickness was about two weeks’ duration. He was born in Warren Co., Ohio, Jan. 18th, 1833, and his age, at death was 67 years, 2 months ahd 14 days; His parents moved to Grant county,' Ind., when he was quite young. He united with the M E. church in his youth and was still a member at his death. He was married in Grant Co., Nov. 16 1852 fb Miss Edith Ann Compton whose death occurred many years ago. By her he had two children, Ezra Porter of Grant Co. and Mrs. Samantha Hopkins, formerly of Rensselaer, now dead. About 1855 he moved to the vicinity of Rensselaer, where he has ever since resided. In 1858 he married Nellie Ann Barkley, who survives him; as do also the five children born to them. Namely, Isaac W., of Rensselaer; Wm. T. and Robert M., of California, Charles, of Venice, 111, and Mrs. Mae Nelson, of DeMofte. During the civil war he was a member of Company G. 9th, Indiana regiment, and at his death was a member of Rensselaer Post, G. A. R. The funeral was held today at. the M. E. church, at 10 a. m., by Rev- H. M. Middleton. Interment will be in Weston cemetery.
