Crown Pointers are Caving.
Crown Point Star, When the Star went to press last week the convention at Rensselaer wasnot through with selecting a joint representative, but a little later Word came that Dr. Bell, of Hammond, had been nominated over Horace Marble by a small fraction of a vote. This the Hammoudites done by all kinds of nefarious work, in the way of promising their solid vote at the county convention to delegates in the south part, etc , and after all this it was later found out that Hammond voted 10 delegates while 9 was all tfley were entitled to and Center township only had 4 votes, while they should have had 5 This the Hammond crowd readily ojvn up to —making it out an innocent error of theirs. Marble was fairly elected by taking off their bogus vote, and with Center’s vote, which was left off, his majority would have been about one and one-half.
Up to this writing, Wednesday, the matter stands in statu quo and while the balance of the county coptend that Marble was fairly nominated, and are going to fight it out on these grounds, the Hammond Republicans (Knotts —he’s the whole thing) are trying to find some hole to crawl out of and call another convention, and if they (Knotts) succeed, mark it gentlemen this isthe beginning of the end of the Republican party in Lake county as far as the Representatives go, and a small blaze sometimes makes disastrous fires The Republicans of Lake county are no longer going to Jja bull-dozed b\ Knotts, and the sooner this is generally known the better it will he for ail concerned. The balance of the Republicans in the north end of the county seem to have no voice in politics, have to come t< the call of Knotts] whip, or stay out of the caucuses. 0 The past three days influential Republicans from Cedar Creek, Eagle Creek, Center, Ross-, anti Winfield townships have let their voices be heard at the Star office, and we are now satisfied that it is idle boast to say the Republicam of Lake county, with a safe majority of 800, are in the balance and wavering, all account of one man Hammond may have another convention if they wish and nominate whoever the ohoosebut tl ey balan< e ot the Republicans will stay by Marble and vote for him, or somebody else. If Hammond wants to rule or ruin she has the opportuni ty.
