Teachers Make Merry.
A number of the teachers of the Rensselaer public -schools were pleasantly surprised yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Kaub and Misses Chilcote, Needham, and Shields, assisted by Miss Della Harris, surprised the entire school force. Mr. Sanders was a party to their councils and he insured the success of the surprise by calling a teachers’ meeting to convene in the library, immediately after the close of school. When Prof, Sanders called the meeting to orde?7 it was noticable that several of the teachers were absent. The discussion of school topics went on without interruption for nearly an hour. A message then came from the other building to the effect that tho absentees understood that tffe meeting was to be held in Miss Shields’ room and that they were waiting there. Mr. Sanders ordered an adjournment to Miss Shieldb’ room and insisted on it despite its protests of the majority, The adjourned body marched rather gloomily to the other building aud was met and welcomed at the door of Miss Shields’ room by the hostesses who were arrayed in white aprons and lace caps. The windows had been shaded and the room lighted by candles. The interesting feature of the situation, before which frozen gloom thawed, was a large table loaded with eatables. Cards bearihg the following menu were given to the guests.
MENU. Weiner Wurst, Sauer Kraut, | Brote und Butter, Schnirkan, Gurken, K uchen, Opts, Kaffee, Limberger Kase und Pretzels. The weiner wurst and kaffee were a la Sprigg; higher terms of praise the writer knoweth not. The other articles on the menu ’were deserving equal praise. The surprise was complete and : every feature of the entertainment was enjoyed by all. However, the last statement should be somewhat modified, the fact that it was a Dutch supper did not entirely i overcome one young ladies objections to sauer kraut. Such surprises are always timely. The ladies who entertained so pleasantly yesterday have given a happy memory tq their delighted guests. Jurit received a car load of barbed wire, smooth wire and poultry wire at- the Chicago Department Store. Everything in ladies’ muslin and cambric underwear. All new at old prices or less at the Chicago Department Store.
