Last Saturday afternoon the Republicans of Jasper County met according to call, and elected delegates to the county convention, for today, Mar. 19th. The delegates so selepted are given in another place. The delegates so elected assembled in convention, in the opera house, at Rensselaer, last Monday afternoon, Mar. 19th, 1900, at 1:30 p m. as per call Tlfe convention was called to ordor by County Chairman, Charles W. Hanley; and Acting Secretary, C. (1. Spitler read \he official call. \ Estel Jfi. Pierson, of Uni<|m township was chosen permanent chairman of the convention and Charles H. Peck, of Remington, secretary. Previous to the election of a permanent chairman, Hon. C. F. Remy, of Bartholomew Co., Reporter of the Supreme Court and an able and experienced campaign orator, addressed the convention for a few minutes,Jon the excellent prospects of Republican success this fall. Mr. Pierson, the permanent chairman, himself one of the ablest political orators in the county, on assuming the chair, addressed the convention for a few minutes, eloquently setting forth the glorious results of McKinley’s election. He closed with an eloquent appeal for the triumphant election of every candidate on the Republican county ticket, this fall. Robert Mannou, of Kankakee, C. C. A\ arner, of Rensselaer and Geo. F. Meyers, of Walker, were chosen tellers. The Republican editors present,«were'made assistant secretaries. The townships were called for nominations for Recorder, Marion township named Robert B. Porter, the present incumbent. No other names were presented and he was
unanimously nominated by acclamation. > Mr. Porter was called and thanked the convention for the honor conferred upon him. The roll was called for nominations.for Treasurer. Barkley presented the name of Robert A. Parkison, the present incumbent. He was unanimously nominated by acclamation. For sheriff, Walker presented John O’Conner, Marion presented A. G. Hardy, Lyman Zea and S. E. Yeoman, Wheatfield seconded John O’Conner. C, H. Mustard of Jordan withdrew before the • convention. One ballot only was needed. Tho following was the vote. Hardy 59 O’Conner 39 Yeoman.... 6 Zea ... . 3 Whole number votes cast 107 Necessary to choice 54 Mr. Hardy was declared nominated. On motion of O’Conner and Zea the nomination of Mr. v » Hardy was made unanimous. Hardy was called and thanked the convention for the honor.
For Coroner, Truitt P. Wright, the old reliable present coroner was nominated by acclamation. For County Surveyor, Carpenter presented Myrt B. Price, the present incumbent. He was re-nom-inated by acclamation. For County assessor presented John R. Phillips, the present incumbent. He was nominated by acclamation. For Commissioner, second district, Simeon A. Dowell, of Marion, was re-nominated by acclamation. For commissioner, third district, Frederick Waymire, of Jordan' was re-nominated by acclamation. For county councilman, District No. One Edward T. Biggs, of Wheatfiold, was nominated by acclamation.
For district No. 2 Nathan Eldredge, of Barkley was nominated by acclamation. For the Third district, Edhardt, Weurthner, of Newton, was nominated by acclamation. For the Fourth District, Frank Babcock of Jordan, was nominated by acclamation. For Councilman at Large, on motion, one was elected from each Commissioner's District.
For District No 1, the north, John Haan, of Keener, and for District No. 3, the south end, Charles T. Denham of Remington, were nominated by acclamation. For District No. 2, I. B. Washburn and G. K.
