Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 21, Number 46, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 9 March 1900 — A Gold Hunters' Reunion. [ARTICLE]
A Gold Hunters' Reunion.
The Republican has heretofore given a full account of a noted expedition to California from this portion of Indiana, in 1850. Early in the spring of that year a party of 100 men from Tippecanoe, Carroll and White counties joined the great “trek” across the plains for California. It was 50 years ago last Sunday when they made their start in Indiana, and the 25 th, of April will be the 50 anniversary of their leaving the Missouri river. There are ten survivors of this party still living in this portion of Indiana, and one of them is our townsman, Jacob M. Troxell. These survivors hold a reunion every two years on the 25 of April, at the home of some one of them. This year they will meet with Mr. Troxell, here in Rensselaer.
