A Night on the Roots.
There was a whole lot of Weather last Monday nightand a numberof ouf citizens opportunites for “sampling” it. On the roofs of tinny of the business houses ware large of veiy wet snow, and the combined effects of the warm wind and heavy rains melted it very fast, and caused a number of ordinarily good roofs to leak badly. The owners or occupants of most of these leaking buildings found out what was going on, and turned out with hands, and shoveled off the snow before much damage was done. The following buildings were especially scenes of these midnight labors: The opera house, Leopold’s corner building, occupied by Ellis & Murray, John and Wm. Eger’s buildings, and Jake Eiglesbach’e. The large sizejof the opera house and Ellis & Murray’s store and the vast accumulations of snow on them, made the cleaning of them a big job, and 'quite a number of men worked on both practically all night. McCoy,s bank building got to leaking badly, and unfortunately no one found it out until considerable damage was done. Some of the rooms and hallways upstairs are badly water-soaked and plastering and ruined. Down stairs qnite a good deal of damage was done in Tuteur’s grocery. The water also came down the partition- walls into Porter & Randle’s store, and soaked about SIOO worth of men’s colored shirts and boys clothing. These will not be much damaged, however.
