Our Ca[?]didate For State Senator.
Jasper oounty delegates will unitedly present the name of William. H. Ooover at the Republican convention to nominate a candidate for state senator, for the senatorial district composed of Jasper, Newton and White counties They will do this, not as claiming that Jasper county has any better claims for the nomination than any other of the three counties, for they all stand alike in that respect, but because they know the peculiar fitness of their man for the position, and because they know further that his nomination would leave no soreness, either in his owu oounty or any other; which is more than could be said were any one of the three excellent and able gentlemeti from White county to be oho Sen. Mr Coover is a man of whom Jasper county has always been proud and of whom the whole district will be if he is made their candidate.
He is a man of fine presence, of most pleasing address, aud a character above reproach in every particular. A man who makes friends, oh sight, and once made always retained. A man of the soundest judgment, and of the most tireless and pains-taking industry. And all the duties he owes to-the public he discharges with the same zeal, energy and conscientious fidelity he would give to his own private affairs. Mr. Coover was born in Pennsylvania, and comes of that fine old Pennsylvania Dutch Stock, whose other names are honesty of character. and solidity of principles. He has lived in this county since 1872. Previous to the spring of 1892 he lived in Remington, and up to that time managed the largest grain handling business of that, the greatest grain shipping point along the whole Pan Handle railroad; and with a fidelity that was never questioned ,
In May 1892 lie took the office of clerk of Jasper county, and for nearly eight years has discharged its duties in a manner that even the most prejudiced political opponents have found no fault with. Politically he is a Republican in every fiber, in whom there is no turning uor shadow like to turning. He is not an orator, but is ableand ready atall times to put his clear thoughts and sound opinions into language that will carry conviction, where an abler orator but a less clear and logical thinker might fail entirely. If elected to the state senate he can not fail, from the first, to command a position of respect and influence; and will always be found diligently and intelligently working for the public good.
