Fifty Years in the St[?]te of Matrimony, County or Jasper.

Our townsman, Uncle Billy Bussel is 70 years old today, and a right lively and happy man for his years. Just how many of the 70 have been passed in Jasper county, we can not say. but he came here while a young boy, of about 13 or 14 if we remember rightly. A more interesting anniversary than his 70th, birthday, occurred on St. Valentine’s dav, of this month. That day was the 50th wedding anniversary of himself and his good wife. Just 50 years before, on Feb. 14tb,,1850, they were married in Hanging Grove township, this oounty, where they coutiuued to reside until a few years ago when they moved to Rensselaer. It had been intended to celebrate the golden wedding with appropriate festivities, but the sickness of a daughter, and of their son’s children prevented. There are not many couples now in Jasper county, who were married here 50 years or more ago and have lived here continuously ever since. Not more than two or three at the most perhaps not more than one.
