Anti-Dowie Riot in Monon.

Monticello Democrat. Monon has been enjoying (?) a series of sermons this week Elder Reiff, a deciple of the Dowie faith, but the meetings came to an abrupt close Wednesday night and will probably not be resumed. It seems that the “Elder” spiced his talks with remarks derogatory to other denominations, and to all secret and benevolent orders, which were more pointed than palatable. These, coupled with the preposterous claims made for his own peculiar belief, led the people to conclude that Monon had experienced about all of Dowieism that she could stand. The talk at the opera house Wednesday evening was punctured by a few eggs, potatoes and other missiles shied at the Elder, and he finally closed with the announcement that services would be continued at 8:30 next morning. The people, however, thought differently; and about three hundred of them followed him to his boarding house, and extracted a pr- raise that he would leave on the first train and probably never come back. This he did Thursday morning, coming to Monticello, and going from here to Union City.
