The play was “The Wreck of the Dardanelles; or, The Cry of a Lost Soul,” and rehearsal had been hurried. But all went well until the storm scene. Then, as the cheap thunder rolled from the files and the wind began to whistle, the skipper found he had forgotten ids lines. “The storm is upon us!” he shouted in tragic accents. “Haul down the—haul down the—the—(in desperation) the bowsprit! Square the anchor! Reef the painter! Man the scuppers! Hurry up. you lazy lubbers! What are you grinning at?”—Answers. .
