FOURTEEN-YEAR FIGHT ENDED.
Lawsuit Between Indiana Men Travels Through Five Courts. After fourteen years of controversy the celebrated case of the Turpie brothers, of Lafayette, against Hugh Lowe, of Motion, came to an end in the Cass County Circuit Court at Logansport. The salt was filed in February, 1886, and was tried before Judge Adams in Clinton County, the original demand being $200,000 damages for an alleged breach of '.rust. A judgment was given Lowe, bat the Supreme Court reversed it in 1888. It then went to Cass County and was tried, btt both sides being dissatisfied with the verdict a new trial was obtained. The case was then consolidated with one filed against the Turpies by a man of the name of Horner and one filed by the Turpies’ wives for the value of land in Ohio. Jndgc Frazer tried the consolidated cases and rendered judgments in favor of the Turpies and against Lowe, aggregating $33,872. In May. 1890, the higher court reversed the judgment. The fifth trial was had before Judge Watkins, of Huntington, and closed with a judgment for Lowe amounting to $12,0G7 and costs, the aggregate not being known. Twenty witnesses, two attorneys, one judge and one of the plaintiffs have died sines the case was filed.
