Fifty Years an Odd Fellow
There was a big time at Odd Fellows’bnilding Wednesday night. It was gotten up to commemorate the completion of the 50th year of membership in the order, of Jacob M. Troxell, the oldest member in the connty, in point of years of membership. Ho joined the order* at Pittsburg, Carroll Co., Nov. 6th, 1849, and of course Nov. 6th, was the real 50th anniversary. He was one of the five charter members of Iroquois Lodge, and the only survivor of the five. Three of the five 'were borrowed from Monticello to help establish this lodge. The other was John McCarthy publisher of one of Rensselaer’s earliest newspapers, and who died some years ago, in Newton county. The entertainment Wednesday night was a great success, and included an extended literary and musical program and a fine sapper. About 200 persons were present.
