MANY DIE IN LANDSLIDE.
Italian Monastery, Hotel and Villas Are Carried Into the Sea. A terrible disaster took place at' Amalfi, Italy, the popular tourist resort on the gulf of Salerno. An enormous rock, upon which stood the Cappuccini Hotel, slid bodily into the sea with a deafening roar and without a moment’s warning, carrying with it the hotel, the old Capuchin monastery below, the Hotel Calerina and several villas. Many people were buried in the debris, which crushed four vessels to the bottom of the sea, destroying their erbws. The mass of earth which slipped was about' 50,000 cubic yards. It is believed that the loss of life is heavy, including a number of monks and the occupants of the hotel.
