Uncle Sam On the Century Question.
As there still seem to be a few people who hold to the mistaken idea that the 19th century will end next Sunday and the 20th century begin next Monday we will quote what the United States Goverment has officially declared in that matter. The Interior department, through the census bureau, has sent out for publication a lot of “facts about the census.” No. 10 of these “facts” reads as follows: 10. The twentieth century will begin on January Ist, 1901. Therefore, the pending Census will afford to future generations a measure of the strength and conditions of the United States at the threshold of the new hundred-year cycle. For that reason every onej should take an active intrust in making it as nearly perfect as possible. If each farmer will make his own report perfect the aggregated report for every community, and for the nation, will be perfect.
