Married Fifty-five Years.

It is an unusual event in most communities for a married couple to reach their 50th or golden wedding anniversary, though Rensselaer is happily possessed of so many vigorous and healthy aged people, that golden weddings have been by no means rare here, for many years past. Mr. and Mrs. Jno. Coen celebrated theirs five years ago, and last Tuesday, Dec. 26th, their 55th wedding anniversary was observed, in a quiet manner, by a small party of relatives and friends and a dinner at the residence of B. F. Ferguson. Mr. John Coen was born in Knox Co., Ohio, Mar. 14th, 1824, and is therefore in his 76th year. Mrs. Sarah Coen was born in Fountain Co., Ind., Jan. 20th, 1828, and is therefore nearly 72 years old. They married in Fountain Co., Deo. 26, 1844, when Mr. Coen was in his 21st. year and his bride in her 17th year. They became residents of Jasper county in the fall of 1852. They have only three living children, Mrs. J. R. Vanatta, Mrs. J. T. Sayler and Mrs B. F Ferguson.
