Obituary.
Frank W. Babcock was born at Delphi Ind. Oct. 20th 1842. He died in Chicago 111. Dec. 12th 1899 at the age of 57 years 1 month and 22 days. His early life was surrounded with many disadvantages, his parents having died leaving him with little education or means of support, but possessed of more than ordinary energy of mind and purpose. In 1861 he enlisted in the 6th Regiment, 111. Cavalry, at Carbondale 111. and served his country during the Great Rebellion, was twice severly wounded. Once lying for two days on the field of battle. He was honorably discharged as Captain in command of a company at the close of the war. Returning he made his home at Rensselaer Ind. where he was elected County Auditor in 1871. Being a hard student, by the close of his term of office he had amply qualified himself for the practice of law, on which he then entered and continued until death. As Auditor he discharged his duties with fidelity and marked ability. As Atty, at law showing equal or greater skill and ability He was happily united in maraiage with Miss Emma Moss in January 1874. She being of feeble constitution lived but a few years. In Sept. 1880 he was again happily united with Miss Marie Patton who with six living children (one having died) survive him and with one sister Miss Mollie a hospital nurse in the civil war and now an invalid in W. R. C. Home in Madison Ohio, and one brother James D. of Rensselaer, trustee of Marion township, together with other relatives and numorous friends are left to mourn his loss. In 1868 he accepted of The Christ as his Savior and life giver uniting with the Church of God remaining an active number thereof during the time of his residence here.
