The Teachers Association.
The annual two days’ meeting of the Jasper County Teachers’ 4 Association was held here Friday and Saturday, in the Presbyterian church. Tnere was an excellent interest and a very large attendance, all but 6 or 7 of the 140 teachers now in active service in.the county being present. Also a considerable number of prospective tearhers, and many visitors. The principal instuctors were Profs. Chas. Dryer, of the department of geography at the State Normal and W. E. Stone, Vice President of Purdue University. Prof. Dryer lectured on geography at every session, and Prof. Stone, on Friday evening, gave his popular lecture, “The Three Schoolmasters.” President H. B. Brown of Valparaiso Normal was present Saturday, and gave a good talk. Train the child to do right what it undertakes to.do, was the line of his lecture. Various papers presented were: Vertical writing by Miss Adda May, of Rensselaer, showing its great advantages over the slant method. General discussions led by Isaac Lewis. Roy Blue of the Wheatfield tp., schools, treated of the educational . laws passed by the last legislature. Music in the District Schools by Miss Ida O’Meara, of Wheatfield town school; and discussion led by Walter Lee. Both held that it should be taught in all schools. Prof. M. R. Marshall, of Remington, treated the subject “The Asthetio Element in the Schools.” Trustee B. D. Comer, of Union tp., spoke on the subject, “The Trustee’s Duty to the Educational Interests of his Township ” The discussion was led, by Trustee Lamborn, of Carpenter. The music was mainly furnished by the various departments of the Rensselaer city schools, under the direction of Miss Mabel Cooper. The officers elected for the ensuing year, are, President, W. J. Reid, Carpenter Tp.; Vice Presi dent, Albert Marshall, Marion Tp.; Secretary, Clara Parker, Marion Tp.; Ass’t. Seo’y, Joeva Green, Hanging Grove Tp.
