The City Council.

All present except tbe Mayor. Fire Chief Hopkins reported the resignation from the fire company, of George Hopkins, Jacob McDonald, John Hodshire and Henry C. Smith. They could not remain in the company unless they forfieted the life insurance policies, as members of the Maccabees. John Rush was accepted of a member of the company. An ordinance was passed prohibiting all heavy hauling, and and traction engines, on improved streets and alleys when soft and in a condition to be injured thereby. It also requires the owners of traotion Engines to protect crosswalks with planks, when passing over them with their engines. Another ordinance was adopted requiring owners of lots to keep the walks fronting the same clear of snow and ice. In case owners fail so to do. the marshal is to do the work, and the cost is to be charged up to the property. Some forty claims were considered and allowed.
