Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 20, Number 111, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 17 October 1899 — J. HARRY GORDON. [ARTICLE]
J. HARRY GORDON.
(7 Days Ahead of the Devil.) J. Harry Gordon, advance agent of Porter J. White, of the unequalled Faust company was in town Friday arranging for an early reproduction here of Goethe’s immortal, and also, in a sense, infernal, drama. Mr. Gordon’s personal business cards are a curiosity. They have a picture of Mephisto, or old Nick, on one end, printed in red, and in the center of the card appears Mr. Gordon’s name and below in parentheses, “7 days ahead of the Devil,” as given in the above headlines. J. Harry and Old Harry seem to be running along together on the same track all right just now, and so long as J. Harry keeps that much in the lead he is all right, but when Old Harry makes a final burst of speed on the homestretch as |ie is apt to do, is when the other Harry will need to look out for himself.
