Slaughter of Birds.

“A look into the millinery stores at this time”, says the South Bend Times/* will convince every thonghtful person that the celebration of Bird day has begun none any too soon. It is enongh to|make anyone shudder to see the hun dreds and thousands of birds that most be slaughtered to satisy the decrees of fashion. Very appropropriately has the term ‘slaughter of the innocents,’ been applied to this wholesale killing of our native birds. Every possible effort should be made to get the people of this conntay to appreciate the economic value of birds, as well as to cultivate that feeling of kindness to helpless creatures which will lead to their protection and preservation.”
