From Onion County, State of Gifford.

A paragraph is going the rounds of the state press regarding the yield of onions on B. J. Gifford Jasper County farms tVis year, coupled with the statement that his onion crop Ihis year is 2,000 acres in extent. Some telegraph }iar is responsible for this last ! statement, and considering that jthe crop is somewhere between : 350 and 400 acres, the exaggera- { tion is not so very great,—for a 1 telegraph liar. / The late severe frosts, by the way, were a bad blow on the onion raisers. Although every effort had been made to get the onions shipped or in places of shelter, ! vet so large was crop and so bard it was to get hands that many thousands of bushels were still laying in windrows in the fields, and all these were pretty badly damaged by the freezing. Owen Callahan, the best onion authority in the district, thinks all oniofis that were out doois were damaged at least 5 cents a bushel. Corn was practically all out of the wav, and he thinks not a 100 acres in the whole district was damaged. The corn crop is imj mense all over Gifford aud potatoes are also a fine crop. All other orops were also fine, so that the Gifford region is very prosperous this year.
