A Rattler Looking For Trouble
Prof. A. C Beeman, principal of the Wheatfield schools, encountered a rattlesnake, Saturday, in the road near the Mulford farm, north of Aix, as he was coming tp town on his bicycle. The rattler was coiled up in the middle of the road, with head up and tail ashaking, and showed no disposition to give the right of way to anybody. It took a flying shot at Mr. Beeman, as he rolled past, and then he thought it was time for him to take a hand in the affair. He dismounted and finding a club by the roadside, promptly dispatched the bellligerent reptile. It was his first experience with a real live wild rattlesnake and very naturally, he preserved the rattles as a trophy. The snake was not a very large one, but judging from the fighting disposition it evinced, it was “pizen” clear through.
