BLACKFORD. Lincoln and Jessie Jenkins attend, •d Dunkard church Sunday, Lightning struck Joseph Williams barn Wednesday about noon burning it and all its contents to the ground, consisting of two horses one buggy, one wagon, wheat dill, and several other articled most of thorn • were insured. Ruth and Frank Schroer spent Sunday in Chicago. Mr. Keiper and family South of Rensselaer visited the family of John Browers near the Burk Bridge Sunday. Mrs Theodore Hurley is on the sick list. Dan Lesh has purchased a new wagon of Levi Renicker of Renssfelaer Jacob Lesh has purchased a new steam engine and cane mill outfit. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Jenkins visited Victor Yeomans Sunday. Jim Harley has finished his work out in lowa and wrote to his pa that he would return to Nubbin Ridge as soon as he would send him the money to pay his return fare.
BARKLEY. Threshing is all the rage at present. Thomas Randle has been quite sick for several days. Several young people of Gillam attended church Sunday eve. Mrs. Belle Clark of Camden was the guest of aunt Rose Murray last Friday. About thirty-five from Barkley attended Fountain Park Assembly last Saturday, some staid for Sunday. S. R. Nichols, Wm. Tanner and Earl Randle went to Chicago Sunday eve with several car loads of cattle Mrs. Hinkle who has been sick for sometime is much better. Mrs. Lavinne Nolan of Crawfordsville was the guest of Mrs. J. T Culp last week. Mrs. Leudeker did shopping in Francesville, Tuesday. Wm Gasper’s ba by has been quitesick. Miss Lulu Sample will soon return from Valpo where she has been in school. Miss Mae Fox of Rensselaer has been the guest of Mrs. Watson for a few days.
NORTH BARKLEY. Born to Mr. and Mrs. William Hickman of Comer, a son. Warren Wilson is on the sick list Dr. Johnson is attending him. Work on the C. and W. V. R. R. is progressing nicely. Miss Kitty Callahan has gone to Kankakee 111., on a visit. Julias Raska and Dicy Zook did buisness in Medaryville one day last week. / T. M. Callahan and Miss Lizzie Ahlers spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Fanson in Wheatfield. Mr. Skinner of Morocco visited Miss Ethel Hann Saturday and Sunday. Application for Liqnor License. Notice is hereby given to the citizens of the town of DeMotte, and of Keener township’ in Jasper county, Indiana that the undersigned Reason M. Dunn, a male inhabitant of the state of Indiana, over the age twenty-one years, of good moral character, and a man who is not in the habit of becoming intoxicated, and who has been a continuous resident of said town and township for over ninety days last past, and who is in respect to all legal qualification and requirement, a fit and proper person to be intrusted with the sale of intoxicating liquors, and who will be the actual owner and proprietor of said retail liquor buisness. If license be granted him. Will apply to the Board of Commissioners of said Jasper county Indiana at their September term, 1899 said term commencing on September 4th 1899 at the Commissioner’s Court room in the Court House in the City in Rensselaer, in said county, for a license to sell and barter, spirituous, vinous malt and all other intoxicating liquors, in a less quantity than a quart at a time with the privilege of allowing the same to be drank on the premises where sold and bartered The location of the premises where on said applicant desires conduct said retail liquor business, is a one story buildiug, fronting on Railroad Street, in the said town of DeMotte, Jasper connty Indiana. The precise location of said premises are more paticularly described as follows, viz The said building is located on lot fourteen (14) in block three (8) of the original plat of the town of DeMotte, in said Jasper County. The northeast (ne) corner of said building being seven (7) feet and seven (7) inches west, and twenty (20) feet south from the northeast (ne) corner of said lot. Thence by outside measurement west nineteen (19) feet and seven (.7) inches thence south four (4) feet, thence west nineteen (19) feet and ten (10) inches, thence south sixteen (16) feet and four (4) inches, thence east thirty-nine (39) feet and five (5) inches, thence north twenty (20) feet and four (4) inches to the place of of beginning. The said described room and building is separate from any other business of any kind acd has no devices for amusement or music of any kind or character. The said building fronts to the north on said Railroad street, having two, 2 windows and one 1, door on the north sfde thereof. One, 1 window on the west, and one, 1 window and one, 1 door on the south, and no door or window on the east side.
