Railroad Meeting.
Initial Step Taken Toward Securing the Gifford Railroad.
An impromptu meeting of the citizens of Rensselaer was held in the Sheriff’s office last Tuesday looking toward securing the Gifford railroad through this city. M. F. Chilcote was chosen chairman, with J. F. Warren, Secretary. Some little discussion followed but the feeling was universal that the road should be secured if possible. Mr. Gifford will be in the city tomorrow and a committee of six: J. F. Warren, G. K. Hollingsworth, Jesse E. Wilson, John Eger, John W. Paxton and Moses Tuteur, was appointed to meet and and confer with Mr. Gifford as to what inducements are necessary to get him to change his proposed route.
' Mr. Major of Remington was present and said be felt confident that the citizens of Remington would take hold of the project heartily. The meeting then adjourned to meet Wednesday night in the east court room to hear a report of the committee. Now that the project is on foot, talk it up, get your friends interested and make a success of the effort. The benefits to be derived are so much greater than the coßt that a comparison would be odious.
