Rensselaer’s Opportunity
To Secure a Railroad That Would Be of lncalcuable Benefit. It has been intimated to The Republican that Benjamin J. Gifford might be induced to change the oourse of his new railroad so as to run it to Rensselaer, and thence south to Remington; Mr. Gifford intimates that if the oitizens of this oity will take an interest in the matter, he might be induoed to run the road here provided he was compensated for the amount required in taking the road from its direct course, this sum being estimated at $12,000.00 It is unncessary to say that an east and west road would be vastly beneficial to this city, as well as to the surrounding country and that a consideration of $12,000.00 for securing the same, is simply a nominal sum oompared with the benefits. We would suggest that a meeting be oalled soon and take some action regarding the matter.
