It is said that you can tell a successful farmer by looking at his wife’s fruit cans in the closet. You can also tell the dry goods box statesman by the patches ou the “bosom of his bloomers:” the poisonous serpent by the bluntness of his tail: the slouchy woman by her shoe buttons and her hair, but the easiest of all, you can pick out the enterprising merchants of the town by looking at the advertising columns of the newspapers. —North Judson News.
