Special Notice to Teachers.

House Bill No. 223 passed by the last legislature and approved March 3, 1899 requires that all teachers be examined over the subject of Literature. Therefore all teachers examined in the months of March, April and May 1899 who have not a grade in Literature will be required to take same, also all teachers holding exemption license. There will be two more examinetions this year. These *will be held ou the last Saturdays in July and August. In the Science of Education there will be two sets of questions, one bjased on “Plato’s Republic” and one ou “General Pedagogy.” The applicants will be allowed to write on either set of questions they desire. The part of the Republic from which the questions will be taken is not specified. The questions in Literature will be drawn from both American and English Literature, being very elementary in character. The regular County Institute will be held the week beginning August 28. Instructors Prof. W. H. Glascock, Supt. of the Bloomington, Ind. City schools and Prof. Elwood W. Kemp, of the Indiana State Normal. The 1899-1900 Teachers’ Reading Circle bpoks are “How to teach Reading and “Organic Education.” They may be purchased at any of the book stores in Rensselaer. Louis H. Hamilton, Supt. Jasper Co.
