Anent the Sale of The Press.
With an apology to onr readers for .rehashing the story of our purchase of this paper, the condition of which have been the subject o' much newspap?r vituperation on the part of the various Rensselaer papers, we desire to say that farther than giving the exact details and dates, we have no desire to enter farther into the controversy, and only do so now in order to correct a misstatement regarding same that appeared in last week’s “Democrat” as follows: “On March 25, 1898, we bargained for the sale of the Remington office, bat the deal was not consu mated and money and notes turned over until April 7, 1898, and we retained our key to said office until this time, and were therefore in possession of same.” Farther along in the same article, referring to the action of Auditor Murray, who placed $1,350 on the tax duplicate against Mr. Babcock, by reason of his failing to list either the Press or its proceeds in his 1898 assessment, Mr. Babcock states: “We answered this summons in person and by attorney, showing that we were in possession of the office on April 1,1898, and gave the facts in the case, we -also showed that we had debts covering much of the receipts from the sale, AND PRESENTED A LETTER FROM OUR SUCCESSORS CONFIRMING THE ABOVE STATEMENTS.” Regarding the exact date of sale and transfer of the Press office,
