One Set of Coons Beat Another Set of Coons.
In the Merry Green Fields of Ball-laud. The much vaunted game of Championship Base Ball between the Colored champions of the world ocoured here yesterday. The Cuban Giants, of New York (Chicago, Cook Co., Ill.) and the Chicago Unions, from the said Chicago, met here and murdered the English language for a few, to the great edification of the omnipresent small boy. We hear there was a game, the score of which was Giants 4, Unions 1. The giants scored in the first and second innings, the Unions in the third. Otherwise it was 1-2-3 and out. The colored lads on both sides, gave an occasional demonstration of the fact that they knew hoW to play ball, but they did not “wanter” yesterday. It would have been too hard work. Many people went to the game to hear some high class rooting. They were woefully dissapointed as the roots which were rooted were small and poor, and fewin the hill The game was listless, and on account of the lack of any peculiar interest being placed in either team, the attention of the crowd was wandering. The colored boys left this morning by wagons for Remington, where they go to Iroquois, Ills. The management deserve great praise for the way they engineered the game: and the accomodations furnished their patrons. The day was a good one for a ball game and nearly 900 people witnessed the There were large numbers from surrounding towns, Remington sending quite a large delegation, while from Wheatfield about 50 attended, j These two coon teams seem to be “totin fah” with each other in the alleged coon championship contest, as they not only divide the gate receipts “even Stephen” but the games also. The game at Rochester Thursday was their 12th and they broke even, six apiece when it was finished.
