The Fee and Salary Law Again Upheld.
The Supreme Court handed down another decision Friday, sustaining the validity of the existing fee and salary law. The suit was brought by Moses D. Harmon, recorder of Madison county, and Ex Judge McCabe was his attorney. He gave as his reasons why the law was unconstitutional: \“First, because said acts do not grade the conqjensation of officers in proportion to population and the necessary services required, as provided by the Constitution. Second, because both acts make an unfounded classifications of county officers into those previously elected as one class and those afterwards elected sis another class, exempting the first class from the operation of said acts ' without reason for such classification.” The court held against him on both these propositions, and it would seem now that the validity of the law is firmly established.
