What Bennett Has Been At.
Constable Christie Vick went up to Virgie, in Union Tp., Tuesday, and arrested Bennett McCoy, and haled him before Squire Burnham’s court. At present we are not prepared to give a very coherent account of what Bennett has been at, that the long arm of the law should have reached out after him. But it seems his cattle broke out of their pasture and ravaged the fields of Charles Harrington. Harrington shut up the cattle, McCoy came after them, and there was a brisk altercation, and perhaps some hostilities, but accounts vary somewhat. Anyhow McCoy charged on the cattle pen, in a solid column, and the Harrington forces resisted valiantly, with Mr. Harrington in command, and his wife and son forming the main body of his army. One statement is that Mr. Harrington directed the movements of his forces from a convenient elevation in the rear namely an up-stairs window; and another statement is that he actively participated in the battle, and smote McCoy with a fence rail. Be that as it may, McCoy is charged with taking hold of Mrs. Harrington, and leading her away from the gate where the cattle were enclosed. He is therefore charged with assault, and is also placed under bonds to keep the peace. The case is set for trial on Friday, June 23rd, before Squire Burnham.
